Hey GirlBoss! Could the Primary Sector be for you? đ„°
I have always been a big believer that,
'none of us is as smart as all of us."
We are facing the biggest issue of our generation -Â the climate crisis. To solve this monumental and defining issue, we must work together.Â
Collaboration is what helps us move forward.
On this note, I am excited to share that over the next few months GirlBoss will be collaborating with the Ministry for Primary Industries. Our work will focus on Diversity, Gender Equality, and redefining what a modern, sustainable, future can look like for one of New Zealand's most important industries.
Farming, fishing and food production is the backbone of our economy - the world needs to be fed.
But New Zealandâs ability to keep producing top quality food, fibre and other natural products is at risk from drought and flooding, invasive pests and diseases, and so much more. There is some amazing innovative work already taking place around these issues â have you heard about the cattle feed theyâre making from seaweed to reduce the methane produced by cows?
Through our partnership with government agency the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) Iâll be sharing some really cool stories about the work going on to combat the impacts of the climate crisis on our country and the world. And it might just spark some ideas of your own!
Over the next few weeks, weâll be running a series of school summits powered by MPI (culminating in a GirlBoss Advantage internship programme at MPI in the July school holidays), to start a conversation about how you might bring your skills and values to this space.
You may be attending one of these with your school, or be keen to join in the conversation online â Iâd love to hear your thoughts!
With work stretching from paddock, orchard, forest and ocean, to promoting innovation, encouraging new technologies and investing in scientific research, through the processing, packaging, and transportation system, all the way to market, and ultimately to consumers worldwide â the breadth of jobs in the primary industries offer exciting career prospects.
You could ignite real change â and even be the next Jacinda!
