The Inaugural EmpowHer Conference

October 9, 2017

WOW, what a day!

Firstly, a HUGE thank you to all the incredible 130+ future young leaders from across Queensland who came, along with the helpful teachers, AMAZING speakers (including the Honourable Minister of Innovation Leeanne Enoch) and generosity of organisations, who all gave their time to be with us. You made the EmpowHer conference what it was and we absolutely would not have been able to do anything without you! A special shoutout to YWCA Queensland, Goodwall, River City Labs and Fuel Girl Shaped Flames for being incredible sponsors and helping us bring the day to life.

We felt so inspired meeting everyone on the day, and really hope everybody got something out of the day. We want to encourage you to stop and reflect on all the advice you heard, and how it directly applies to your life, so you can make the most of what you learn.

Thank you especially to all our incredible speakers who made the day what it was by taking the time out of their busy schedules! On our Career Stories panel, we had Lauren Shuttleworth (founder of social enterpriseWords with Heart), Kara Cook (founder of Cook Legal), Kim Teo (founder of PitchBlak) and Erika Rose (Boeing Engineer).

On our quotas panel, we had Dr Christina Schroeder (Head Senior Researcher at UQ), Madeline Price (founder of One Woman Project), Darren Hooper (Diversity & Inclusion at Aurizon), and Jennifer Gillett (senior project manager at Queensland Rail).

Also, a huge thank you to all the organisations involved with the running of our workshops who made things run seamlessly, including Brisbane Womens Club, Be Social Be Smart, YWCA QLD, BOUNCE Financial and the One Woman Project.

If there's one message you take away from the conference, it's that you are fully capable of whatever you set your mind to, and the world is your oyster. Another one of the goals with our conference was to expand our ChangeMakeHer network, so we now have some incredible ambassadors and members from across QLD. Be sure to watch this space for all the exciting things they get up to in the next year! We can't wait to see you at the 2018 EmpowHer conference!
